Case Studies

A city contracted with SWPM to create an economic development plan for their historic downtown. The main street was blighted, with little economic activity. After an extensive process, which included use of a steering committee, public meetings, interviews and focus groups, SWPM created a plan this town could use to preserve its history in a pedestrian-friendly setting, complete with museums, businesses and public spaces to be enjoyed by all.

A city hired SWPM to determine the feasibility of developing an adventure tourism initiative. Many areas needed to be explored, including the ability of the area to attract visitors for the purpose of adventure sports, the nature of the target markets and their needs, and the costs and revenues associated with the initiative. In order to determine the feasibility of this project, SWPM worked with a local advisory committee, conducted national research, conducted local interviews and research, including a community survey and public meetings.
